My Little Secret

There was a time when I didn’t know if I could make it from the gym floor to the locker rooms.


There was a time when I’d sit in a coffee shop and felt the exit was lightyears away.


There was a time I would eat alone at a restaurant and I'd ask to settle my bill as soon as the food was served - in case I had to run outside (and they would think I was a thief).


There was a time when queueing at the supermarket with a full trolley had become unbearable, so I did multiple shops with only a handbasket.


There was a time when I didn't know if I would be able to board my plane. (Odd, given that I used to work as cabin crew for 6 years.)


What was even odder is that the stuff that scares the heck out of most people (public speaking, for example), did not phase me in the slightest.


And that very mismatch between my “two worlds” was the reason it took me years to understand I was living with anxiety. Me... a “good person,” appreciated by many for my engaging trainer skills, you know, the good stuff; the good feedback… The external validation always in total contrast with the inner experience.


And then, there came a time when that all changed. For good.


First, I discovered that anxiety is not about being good or bad. Then, I discovered Mindfulness.


And the rest, as they say, is history. Ask those who are close to me, they will confirm. I’m not saying I don’t have the occasional wobble (I am human, not a robot), but it’s been 2,5 years since my last panic attack. This is down entirely to my daily Mindfulness practice. And it is a trainable skill you, too, can learn.


I don’t “sell” my Mindfulness courses, I teach Mindfulness because it’s my “Why”… to help others help themselves. Because it IS possible. (And it may go together with additional support if needed, for sure, but Mindfulness was the game-changer for me.) Perhaps you want to explore it, too?
